This is why I came to believe this: Every other game recognizes the controller, except for NMS. Back when my controller was working properly w/ NMS, I saw that the configuration was set to something called "#Library_ControllerSaveDefaultTitle". I didn't know where it came from, but it worked. The (A) button does a short jump/hop in land based Exocraft. I think the Right trigger is for firing weapons. The D-pad most usefully has access to the menu with the scan functions. Yeah I saw the option to do it thru steam BPM, but I don't like that idea, especially when the game states it has full controller support..
The Plum Gate May 5, 2019 @ 10:15am. If you run your DS4 controller via USB, go into the steam controller options and uncheck everything except generic controller support. Start using the controller in game and it will be detected properly ( as a default NMS on PS4 controller binding ). Icons should be correct also.
at the top, where it says Current Layout, click the selector below (just above the View Layout and Edit Layout options) select the Recommended tab at the top. select the proper Official Configuration for No Man's Sky that matches your controller. hit the A button to select that config. hit the X button to apply that config. So I've been trying to get back into No Mans Sky and I used to play it with an Xbox controller on my PC with no problem. Now my controller doesn't work at all, it brings up the steam overlay in-game with the Xbox button and I'm able to use the controller for the steam overlay but not for NMS. I originally ran NMS thru GOG, via NMS.exe as a shortcut in Steam. I had it set up as the default game controller layout Steam offers with non-Steam games ("Gamepad") and only "Playstation Configuration Support" turned on in General Controller Settings. No issues ever. This was via wired USB, not using DS4Windows at all.

Here's a list of everything I've tried: restarting the game, restarting steam, restarting my computer, verifying integrity of game cache, reinstalling the game, deleting the "INPUT" file in the game's folder and then verifying integrity of game cache, switching the controller configuration to a number of different configs.
