I was all over getting the 24-120 when it was announced because 24-105s have been my staple for work since canon launched the 24-105L IS about 2005 ( anything faster needed , its Primes) and have the Sigma 24-105 F4 ART on the D850 more than the 24-70 F2.8 but I`m loving the compactness and lightness of the Z7/24-70 rig over the D850 / 24-105
For travel, zoo, and other out and about shooting, I’d take the 24-120 any day of the week - the extra range is definitely more useful than the extra stop when you’ve got sunlight to work with. The 24-70 f/2.8 (and by extension the 28-75 f/2.8) is a surprisingly specialized lens.

For now I have the 24-70 f4 which I really like as well as 70-200mm 2.8 S line to cover the range without overlappping. The second is so insanely sharp, so I probably won't need the 70-120 from the 24-120mm. But the 24-120 would make a good single lens for hiking. ( I have the 24-200, but I'm not very happy with it). It has true professional performance as far as wide open sharpness, edge to edge sharpness, sharpness at all focal lengths, all apertures and all camera to subject distances. It has very nice bokeh and overall IQ. It is a remarkable lens, IMO. The 24-200 is already at F/6.3 by about 85mm so the 24-120 is giving you a stop and a third more light at portrait focal lengths (and of course less DoF that is sometimes desirable). On the flip side 120 vs 200 is quite a significant difference in reach. .
