Hi, I justo got a BMW Z4 and I knew the up/down motor was dead. The lock/unlock motor it is working just fine, so when I follow the steps to make it manual (go to my trunk, put dow the base, move in 90 degrees the red ring) I really can't move more than 3 inch the top down, even fighting.
TPMS RESET. Set the tire pressure on all wheels to specification. Turn ignition switch to ON position, with engine off. Press reset button (for no longer than 10 seconds) until tire pressure warning light illuminates Yellow for a few seconds. See Fig. 11, Fig. 12, Fig. 13, or Fig. 17 . Drive vehicle.
Check the partition in the trunk to make sure it is fully in the down position. if the light on the switch is orange then the microswitch is not depressed. if the light is red and the top still wont open then you have a bad pump due to water ingress from clogged up body cavity drains. this is an expensive repair. I I have tried taking out and replacing the motor (I have got 2 motors) but nothing moves except the sound of the motor. I tried topping up the oil and checking everything is into place.

As stated I have a 2009 Z4 E89 and my top is not operating correctly. As I start the retraction process on the roof, the bottom half (with glass) starts to move but needs help folding it self on to the roof.
